+++ please forward to interested circles +++

dear all,

together with the global network Stay Grounded and other organisations,
we ask academics and experts from around the world to sign an open
letter opposing the huge & unconditional bail-outs for the aviation
industry: *#SavePeopleNotPlanes - Red Lines for Aviation Bail-outs*

*Please sign the letter via this form by **Wednesday, 8 April*, 12 noon
(CEST): https://forms.gle/rzBKjPsMqrobr6d48.

Please do NOT publish the letter yet or post it pubically on social
media etc.! On Monday April 6 this open letter will be launched with all
the sign-ons from organizations, then we'll publish the letter signed by
academics and experts Thursday April 9, and launch a petition for
individual sign-ons on change.org.

*Press: *We want to publish the letter and the signatures in as many
newspapers as possible on Thursday, 9 April. And for this *we need your
help!*

It would be best, of course, to publish in large newspapers, to reach as
many persons as possible and create public pressure. Guardian,
Liberation or ZEIT would be better then some blogs (and large newspapers
might not publish the letter if it is also published on blogs at the
same day, this could be done later). Thats why we collect proposals /
contacts in this pad, sorted by country:
https://pad.riseup.net/p/%23SavePeopleNotPlanes-keep Please add if you
have contacts! If you have questions, please write to Matthias Schmelzer
(matthias.schmelzer at uni-jena.de).

The situation is quite urgent, as in many countries, governments are
already deciding on huge gifts or grants to airlines & aviation
industry. We demand from the respective governments:

1) People first (labour protections & basic income for impacted workers
instead of bailing-out executives and shareholders)
2) A just transition: towards climate-safe mobility (absolute emissions
reductions from aviation, system-wide changes to transport networks,
enabling workers to move away to decent climate jobs etc.)
3) No taxes? No bailouts! (calling for an end of tax exemptions and
progressive environmental taxing schemes)

Thank you for signing on and spreading this letter!
