Message from Dr. Nicolas Jaoul, Anthropologist, Paris

Dear friends
This year the annual celebrations of BabasahabAmbedkar cannot take place due to the lockdown in India. Ambedkar(14/4/1891-6/12/1956) fought relentlessly for India to free herself from anexploitative and violent caste system. He has continued to inspire manystruggles and individuals who committed their lives to pursue this task.

In order to contribute to the online celebrations of thisadmirable man, I propose a home screening of my documentary film « Sangharsh, times of strife » that willbe freely available online until 21st April.

You are welcome to share it with friends with this link : https://vimeo.com/user11319501/review/406877162/8a3fca1774?fbclid=IwAR2NiaZfun0_z793jrVhLe04bReN-wkVqlbV-z53gHhjA1Oi2AtHC6N6j6I
and this password : Babasahab129

I hope the film will inspire you for the decisive strugglesthat await us after the lockdown, for a more equal and happy world, free of allforms of state violence, exploitations, injustices and humiliations.

I would like to dedicate this event to Anand Teltumbde, whois member of the Ambedkar family and who will be jailed on 14th April on falsecharges by the Indian government.

Free Anand Teltumbde and all political prisoners !

Long live Ambedkar ! Babasahab Amar rahei !

About the Film: Shotin the late 1990s just after the BSP lost political power and the BJP tookover, Sangharsh takes us deep into the lifeworld of Dalit Panther activists inUttar Pradesh. By following three activists, one is taken on a rough trip inthe slums and villages of Kanpur region, where these characters are determinedto continue spreading the revolutionary messages of Ambedkar, comes what mayand in a creative way. It is an emotional journey into the urge to struggle inorder to assert one's humanity, when humiliation, exploitation and violenceremain always around the corner.

Amid the corona pandemic, taking a leaf out of Babasaheb’swritings would do well to ensure that the poor and marginalised are notprofiled and denied treatment, as seen in the flu epidemic of 1918.

My final words of advice to you are educate, agitate and organize; have faith in yourself. With justice on our side I do not see how we can lose our battle. The battle to me is a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest sense spiritual. There is nothing material or social in it. For ours is a battle not for wealth or for power. It is battle for freedom. It is the battle of reclamation of human personality.
B.R.Ambedkar
