Dear Friends and Partners

Please find below a call we are building for the release of all 
political prisoners.
Our goal is to ask for the liberation of a maximum of prisoners around 
the world and particularly on the African continent and among them 
specifically political prisoners, women, and children in jails.
In our government's effort to contain the number of deaths connected to 
the Covid19 pandemic. We see liberating prisoners who are not posing 
a threat to their families and communities, particularly to women and 
children as one of the ways to diminish the spread of the epidemic but 
also a kind gesture that is needed in times of deep sorrow.
@FaridaNabourema is still making some edits to the letter please send 
her any feedback and let her know if you as an individual or a 
representative your institution would sign on to this letter or help us 
communicate on it. You can add the name of your organization on the link 
to the excel sheet.
I am very sorry for cross-posting as we are sending to maximum people as 
time is short and action needs to be quick. We are translating in 
  French Arabic and Portuguese.

Hello dear all,

I hope this finds you well. Africans Rising would like to appeal to all 
African heads of states to release political prisoners. We have issued 
and statement and collecting signature before publishing.
  Please find via the link below the draft statement asking African 
heads of state to release Human Rights defenders, journalists, and 
political prisoners. We would like to issue the statement the soonest as 
possible as we have been informed just today that some prisoners have 
been diagnosed with COVID-19 inside a Cameroonian prison where several 
political prisoners are arbitrarily detained.
Cameroon already has over 800 confirmed cases. The government has 
decided to stop publicizing the number of confirmed cases which will 
make it even harder to tell how many people are victims of this.

Please we want to get organizations to co-sign this statement and we 
will appreciate it if you can share within your network. The 
organizations that would like to sign it can enter their details on the 
spreadsheet attached.
