Greetings! Another day, anotherassault on the Constitution and its Special Provisions. This time by theJudiciary itself on the Reservation/Affirmative Action Policy for ScheduledTribes (Adivasis/Indigenous People) in Scheduled Areas under Schedule V of theConstitution. This would again become a bench-mark judgment which could be utilized as aprecedent for curtailing and even ending the Reservation Policy for Dalits,Adivasis and Other Backward Caste (OBC) people in future.
Do pass it on to others in yourcircle/network.
Why IndiaNeeds Scheduled Tribes to Educate its Future Judges
Nandini Sundar, The Wire, April 28, 2020
The rights of adivasis in the Indian constitution are not anact of benevolence to “mainstream and uplift them” but a recognition that the“mainstream” of Indian society has many streams that flow into it, each of themequally valid.
For far too long, education in India has been seen by theestablishment as a ‘civilising’ mission designed to make adivasis and dalitsinto mental clones of the upper castes, even if they continue in theirsubordinate jobs. Merit is defined merely as efficiency in achieving this goal, rather than in terms of success in tapping indigenous ecological knowledge, preserving adivasi languages and culture and giving confidence to adivasistudents by acting as role models.

My final words of advice to you are educate, agitate and organize; have faith in yourself. With justice on our side I do not see how we can lose our battle. The battle to me is a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest sense spiritual. There is nothing material or social in it. For ours is a battle not for wealth or for power. It is battle for freedom. It is the battle of reclamation of human personality.
