I wanted to share a message from Slow Food about the Ogiek community 
with you all. The situation is quite urgent

Dear organizations, allies of indigenous peoples and Slow Food,

we are writing to you for an urgent matter.


The Ogiek communities in Mau Forest (Kenya) contacted us reporting 
evictions from their ancestral lands. These evictions were done by the 
Kenyan government with short or not notice at all, with human rights 
violations. With the Covid-19 at the doorstep you can imagine how 
terrible and dangerous this situation is.


Together with them, we wrote a draft statement letter (attached) 
expressing our concern. It will be sent on Friday 17th COB time,  to the 
international and local press, and to the Cabinet Secretary of the 
Kenyan Ministry of Environment & Forestry to raise awareness on this 
situation.


If you would like to be among the signatories, we ask you to share with 
us any comments by tomorrow at 5pm - CET. So we can include your 
suggestions and organization name, and send it by the end of the day.


The Ogiek are active and committed members of the Slow Food movement who 
are fighting for a better food system for all, and we would like to 
stand by them, supporting in solidarity. This will be the first of a 
long series of actions to contribute to change this situation.
