The title of the Forum is Repression, Uprising, and Internationalism.

Working people are confronting rising levels of violence and repression. In the US the murder of George Floyd has sparked a massive backlash against racial violence by the police.

We will begin the meeting with updates from trade union comrades from Chile, the Philippines and the United States. Reports from:
Tamara Muñoz, CUT-Chile
J.P. Patafio, Transport Workers Union, Local 100, USA
Josua Mata, Sentro, Philippines

Global Trade Union Assembly (GTUA2020)

Meanwhile, in response to the ongoing public health and economic crises, more than 30 trade union bodies <https://unionsforenergydemocracy.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f221f934e081bc32b8fcd79e2&id=a0c7c255fd&e=9a1b8f8b8b> from 18 countries have come together to convene a Global Trade Union Assembly.

Titled "Pandemic and Beyond: Workers Organizing for a Public Future <https://unionsforenergydemocracy.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f221f934e081bc32b8fcd79e2&id=bbecec144d&e=9a1b8f8b8b>," the Assembly will take place as a series of 2-hour, virtual meetings during July, August and September 2020. The opening session will take place on July 9th. The final session will take place on September 10th. The full program <https://unionsforenergydemocracy.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f221f934e081bc32b8fcd79e2&id=68671ec64c&e=9a1b8f8b8b> is available on the Assembly website.

TUED has been working with the convening unions to coordinate preparations for the Assembly.

The Assembly is open to all trade union members, activists and leaders, as well as movement allies. Please register for the Assembly here <https://unionsforenergydemocracy.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f221f934e081bc32b8fcd79e2&id=7aabc64b62&e=9a1b8f8b8b>.

The June 11th Forum will provide an opportunity to discuss why the Assembly has been called, and what it is trying to accomplish. Representatives of unions convening the Assembly will talk about their involvement in the initiative, and summarise how the program was developed and why.

We will cover the Assembly’s structure, registration and logistics, and share ideas on how, together, we can make the Assembly a successful expression of international solidarity during a time of great uncertainty, anxiety, and hardship.
