FOR YOUR URGENT ATTENTION :
Nominations invited by the International Council of the World Social Forum for an online dialogue on June 27 to discuss the future directions of the WSF at this juncture in world history
This mail is to urgently share with you an invitation from the International Council of the World Social Forum to nominate regional and international organisations for an online dialogue on June 27, to discuss the direction of the WSF in its 20th year (2021).
Following intensive discussions within the International Council during May – and indeed, since January this year -, the IC has agreed that especially given the juncture of world history and movement that we have now so decisively entered, and as those in the leadership of the WSF discuss the future of the initiative in this emerging context, it is vital for them to also consult and get the opinions and advice of those in other regional and international movements and organisations.
As those familiar with the WSF will recognise – and perhaps for any international organisation or movement –, this is a very major step that it has taken, and especially given the significance of the World Social Forum in movement history, this therefore constitutes a very significant opportunity for all concerned with social, economic, ecological, political, and cultural justice.
Please therefore find attached the invitation from the International Council of the World Social Forum, and please send, as early as possible :
(a) Your name and the name and contact details for your organisation; and -
(b) Your nominations of regional and international organisations for invitation to the debate on June 27, as well as the name of their contact person and her/his contact details,
To :
In French and English : Hamouda at hsoubhi at alternatives.ca <mailto:hsoubhi at alternatives.ca>
In Spanish and Portuguese : Rosy at rosyz_secretariageneral at ceaal.org <mailto:rosyz_secretariageneral at ceaal.org>
The invitation includes an Agenda for the online debate.
Those organisations and movements approved by the International Council of the WSF will then directly receive invitations to the online dialogue on June 27.
The earlier you do your nominations therefore, the better !
FOR OTHER LANGUAGE VERSIONS OF THIS DOCUMENT, please contact the appropriate person, as above !
For those on the WSMDiscuss list :
Please note that this mail is in follow-up to Rita Freire’s post on WSMDiscuss on June 14 (as below), where she shared an earlier draft of the invitation letter from the International Council. Please note therefore, that the version I am now attaching here supersedes the version that she posted on that day.
Moreover, at a general level this mail is also in follow-up to my post on May 28 2020, titled ‘Report-back on online meeting organised this last Saturday, May 23, titled ‘Looking ahead - Revisiting the World Social Forum’ ’.
In solidarity !

> This is not a publicity piece but for invitations. Once this list, since its origin, has been focused on sharing and reflecting on some themes wich are close with those of the WSF, and it has even discussed the current process, I think this document may be of interest.
> Suggestions of movements and networks of international scope, clearly anti-neoliberal, which should be invited by the IC, are welcome.
