This is an urgent appeal for solidarity.

The Ministry of Environment is going to consider extending the validity 
of Environment Clearance to the Integrated Kashang Project in Kinnaur, a 
tribal dominated district of Himachal Pradesh.

This area in the high Himalayas, falling in the Satluj Valley, is known 
for its geological vulnerability and ecological diversity. Stage I of 
this ADB funded 243 MW Project is already operational and Stage II, III 
and IV are yet to be constructed and have faced opposition from the 
local tribal population on the grounds that these will spell doom for 
their lives, livelihoods and biodiversity.

This project has been in the news for non compliance of safety norms and 
violating tribal laws including the FRA 2006. You may have read about 
the landmark NGT judgment on FRA compliance that the Lippa village 
managed to get and the struggle to get the order implemented on the 
ground... this is the same Kashang project. We need to amplify our voice 
at this moment to let the so called Expert Committee of the MoEF know 
that we are not okay with further extension of Environment Clearance to 
this project. The EAC meeting is on the 15th May 2020 and we will be 
collecting signature till the morning of 13th May 2020.
