Greetings! I hadcirculated a news item on May 20, 2020 about a 15/13 year old girl cycling 1200km to take her ailing father from Gurugram in Haryana to Darbhanga in Bihar inabout 7/8 days.
It is clear from thename of Jyoti Kumari’s father- Mohan Paswan, that they belong to a Dalit castein Bihar. Mohan Paswan’s family is also like teeming millions who survive asdaily wage earners and with more than two months of lockdown due to coronaviruspandemic, their life is on edge now.
Jyoti Kumari’s enduranceand strength as been acknowledged the world over and the Cycling Federation ofIndia has offered her for trials and take care of expenses for her training tobecome a professional cyclist once the lockdown is over.
Let us all hope for abetter future for Jyoti Kumari and others like her.
