Dear Jai Greetings! Thanks a lot for your query regarding appointment of Prof. Sonajharia Minz considering her past and current activities.
First of all, Sido Kanhu Murmu University is a State University and not a Central University. The appointment of Vice Chancellor is recommended by the State Government to the Governor who approves and make the appointment. Governor's role is ceremonial only though the appointment is made in their name. Governors are the Chancellor of all State Universities.
Secondly, Jharkhand is currently ruled by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in coalition with Indian National Congress (INC) Party and RJD belonging to Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav. The current Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Mr. Hemant Soren is young and dynamic and claims to bring good governance to Jharkhand. The State Government invited applications and after scrutiny of applications received, it made recommendation to the Governor for appointment. The Central Government has no role to play in any manner. The State Government does not require any approval from the Central Government in certain matters under the federal system that we have in the country. The Governor/s may ask for clarifications or more information but can not refuse to accept the recommendation/s made by the State Government. The Governors are agent of the Central Government and they are custodians of the Constitution and Rule of Law. The current Governor of Jharkhand though appointed by BJP Government only, she has to work on the recommendation/s made by the duly elected government led by JMM and its coalition partners.
So, you could see a non-BJP Government in a State could provide chance to a genuine person to be appointed as Vice Chancellor. And this how Pro. Minz has got this chance to serve a University in Jharlhand's hinterland. And people who knows her simplicity and commitment are very happy and also hopeful that she would her best as long as she is there at the helm of affairs.
With Regards Umakant

Dear Umakant
Thanks, as always, for this post andfor bringing this milestone event to our notice ! For the Adivasis and for India – and for educationand the production of social knowledge !
At the same time, if she was indeed
President of JNU Teachers’Association (JNUTA) two years ago and also served as Dean, School of Computerand System Sciences, and Chief Advisor, Equal Opportunity Cell, JNU
as you say,and given what the article says :
In 2018-19, she was president of the JNU Teachers Association. Duringher tenure, students and teachers participated in a militant agitation againstthe introduction of seat cuts, compulsory attendance and the online entranceexam.
And on the otherhand, given the manner in which the central government has attacked JNU overthis past few years, I have to admit that it seems amazing to me that with thisbackground, and at this time in history, that the central government ministrieshave approved her as Vice Chancellor of the Sido Kanhu Murmu University! How and why do you think this hashappened ?
But in anycase, this takes nothing away from her appointment, and all power, and wisdom,to her !
In celebrationand solidarity !
Jai

My final words of advice to you are educate, agitate and organize; have faith in yourself. With justice on our side I do not see how we can lose our battle. The battle to me is a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest sense spiritual. There is nothing material or social in it. For ours is a battle not for wealth or for power. It is battle for freedom. It is the battle of reclamation of human personality.
