Dear Friends

Greetings! August 02is observed as Roma and Sinti Holocaust Memorial Day across Europe. On thelinks given below you could read and also watch videos commemorating this dayin humanity’s history as a day against prejudice, hate and brutality. It isalso to be noted here in this connection that while the day is remembered toatone for past injustices and wrongs, the current situation of Roma and Sintipeople continues to remain a matter of serious concern as they still face discrimination, exclusion and violence based on work and descent (family lineage).

Do pass it on toothers in your circle/network.

On 2August, we commemorate the last 4,300 Sinti and Roma in the German Naziconcentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, who were murdered by the SS on thatnight in 1944 despite their fierce resistance. In memory of all 500,000 Sintiand Roma murdered in Nazi-occupied Europe, the European Parliament declaredthis date the European Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma in 2015.

TheSS liquidated the “family camp” at Auschwitz-Birkenau, driving 4,300 screamingand wailing people to their deaths. It was truly a day of horror in the RomaniHolocaust, known also as the Porajmos. In 2015, the European Parliamentdeclared August 2 as Roma Holocaust Memorial Day forSinti and Roma.

My final words of advice to you are educate, agitate and organize; have faith in yourself. With justice on our side I do not see how we can lose our battle. The battle to me is a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest sense spiritual. There is nothing material or social in it. For ours is a battle not for wealth or for power. It is battle for freedom. It is the battle of reclamation of human personality.
