Join leading US activists-intellectuals, including two DSA leaders, to
reflect on the recent national convention and the strategic challenges
facing the left. In addition to the DSA leaders, Bill Fletcher, Jr., will
draw on his recent essay, "The Modern Tecumseh and the Future of the U.S.
Left" to help guide the conversation. In the spirit of Gramsci's "The
Modern Prince," Bill draws on the framing, strategic, and organizational
innovations of the famed 19th century Native America leader, Tecumseh, to
offer lessons for the left. Adding to the conversation is Matt Nelson,
director of Presente.org, one of the largest Latinx organizations in the
U.S. Two long-time ecosocialist leaders, David Cobb and Meleiza Figueroa

Following a successful national convention (August 2021), Democratic
Socialists of America faces a still pandemic-ridden nation, beset with
extractive inequalities, political dysfunction, imperial entanglements, and
the rapid onset of catastrophic climate change. As the largest organized,
left-wing formation, the moment poses special strategic and organizational
challenges, ones surfaced in Bill Fletcher, Jr.’s “The Modern Tecumseh”
essay. How will the would-be mass party of the working class help rebuild
the working-class movement and attend to the historic tasks left unfinished
by previous generations? In this post-convention conversation, we talk with
