Dear colleagues, friends:

Salva la Selva/ Rettet den Regenwald will defend the petition "The EU-Mercosur treaty is a threat to forests and jungles" in rejection of the EU-Mercosur treaty in the Committee on Petitions of the European Parliament. It will take place on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 1:45 pm.

The invitation coincides with the growing rejection against the EU-Mercosur Treaty and ours will be presented along with other similar petitions, urging the treatment of the issue in depth.

During the session, we will discuss with intervention of members of the European Parliament and representation of the European Commission to whom a representative of our organization will address (myself!) asking for the definitive rejection of the agreement because of the impact it entails in terms of deforestation, human rights and climate change, among others. In addition, we will point out how President Bolsonaro is taking the nefarious economic system to its most perverse extremes, in which the European Commission is accomplice. We will ask for support for the petition to remain open and continue to address the issue in PETI until the end of the agreement is achieved as we believe that in its current form it is not improvable.

1) Join the petition both on the Save the Rainforest website (enter the link and complete the form on the right with your data).

NOTICE: The title contains an error that has been requested to be corrected, as we are not acting on behalf of 340 organizations, but on behalf of the people (currently more than 350,000 people) who have signed the Save the Rainforest petition.

5) If you have contact with MEPs who are part of the PETI Petitions Committee or who are specifically interested in the issue even if they are not part of the PETI Committee, please let me know! I am preparing a specific message to MEPs asking for their support that I can forward.
